Faulty speaker?

Postby mrbob » March 18th, 2011, 11:06 am

Hi all,

I've done a search and the forum doesn't seem to have anything on this.

I've bought a B-Grade Scroll from Maplin, it arrived yesterday. Mostly happy with it.

Although I can get audio through earphones, I don't seem to be getting any audio through the internal speaker.

Has anybody else had this problem? If so are there any firmware problems with running the internal speaker, or is it likely that the internal speaker simply is faulty?

Sometimes I like to setup timers and alarms and I don't wish to have to plug in speakers each time.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I would presume either the speaker is faulty or the headphone socket. The action of plugging in the headphones operates what is effectively a switch (a small leaf contact built into the socket) that cuts off audio to the speaker.
This can also be done electronically but is unlikely to be done this way on the scroll.

Can you turn the volume up and down with the switch on the side, and does a slider icon appear on the screen when you do so?

My suggestion: Return it as faulty

Employees are like mules. Some you stand in front of and coax them along with a carrot. Some you stand behind and kick them in the arse. The key to management is knowing which mules are which!

Thanks very much for your advice Fonefixer.

Yes I can turn the volume up and down ("Ringer" volume and "Media" volume when playing music/video). The volume adjusts accordingly through the earphones but no sound through internal speaker when earphones unplugged.

Yes, looks like the Scroll is going back to Maplin! :(
